During the Millennium year we secured the original factory tooling from Firth Furnishings to produce moulded carpet sets for all Minis built after May 1973- on the rear of the moulded floor carpets you will notice the original tool numbers embossed in the foam backing! This kit will fit any Mini saloon built with the late ‘square’ front tunnel, which was introduced in 1973*. This means the majority of the surviving Mk3 models, and Mk4, Mk5, Mk6 and Mk7 saloons.
These carpets cleverly have a thin layer of sound deadening foam material glued onto the backing during the moulding process. The kit contains the front and rear moulded mats, a bulkhead covering piece with extra sound deadening felt, front wheel arches also with felt, a pair of sill carpets and a cross member covering piece. All necessary clips and fitting instructions are included.
Apart from the two main floor mats the remaining items need to be glued in place on top of the included insulating felts. Glue is not included in this kit - we would suggest you use a couple of spray contact adhesive cans. The sill carpets are cut to size and fit with minimal trimming. The cross member carpet is supplied to be fitted right across the car (originally these only covered about 10" of the cross member working in from the sides- this can be cut down to size easily for originality). We have marked positions under the front moulded carpet to fit either early or late gear lever positions as well as steering column position for LHD or RHD cars- it is easiest to get the best possible fit and neatest finish by removing the column from the car entirely before fitting the front mat. Carpet clips are supplied to fix these items in place. Happy motoring!
* The previous design of tunnel was much more rounded and included the hump for the Mk1 starter housing, which by 1973 had long been redundant. The reason the Mk1 front tunnel and floor pan lasted in production as long as it did, was mainly becau
